Opening Reception For Watercolorist Marla Greenfield

Artisans Way Gallery in Concord, MA will host an opening reception on June 1 from 11-3 for local watercolorist Marla Greenfield.

Artisans Way Gallery on Walden Street in Concord, MA will host an opening reception for local watercolorist Marla Greenfield’s collection “Light and Color” on Saturday, June 1. From 11 – 3, Marla will be in the gallery to share her inspirations and discuss the techniques she uses to create her light-filled, still life paintings and classic New England scenes. In addition, all Fine Art will be discounted 10% for the weekend of June 1-2.

After retiring from a fifteen year career in the investment business, Marla Greenfield became a full time watercolor artist in 1998. She was drawn to watercolors because of their transparency and luminosity. Painting things she finds beautiful, peaceful and calming, she strives primarily to depict the beauty of light in her art. For her, light is often defined by the white of the paper, which she offsets with rich shadow shapes in a wide range of values. She starts with a wet into wet technique, allowing the colors to merge and bleed beautifully on the paper. She then uses numerous glazes to produce rich dark tones. The luminosity of the paint allows earlier layers to show through, revealing an exceptional glow. She draws the viewer in by focusing closely on her subjects, producing intimate portraits.

Marla is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and a past president and signature member of the New England Watercolor Society, where she has also served as a member of its board. She has exhibited in shows throughout the country, including the American Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society annual exhibitions and has won numerous awards, both on a regional and national level. She has been featured in American Artist Watercolor Magazine, with her work chosen for the cover. She teaches watercolor classes throughout New England and workshops around the country. Marla graduated from Tufts University with a degree in Economics and Boston University with an MBA. She has dual residence in Wayland, Massachusetts and the Berkshires.
