Organist Robert Barney: 25th anniversary recital Sept 29
Robert Barney's 25th Anniversary Recital features works of J.S. Bach, those who inspired him, and those whom he inspired.

Robert Barney, music director at Trinity Episcopal Church in Concord, has been on the job since 1994. To celebrate these 25 years, he will present an Anniversary Organ Concert on Sunday, September 29 at 4 pm on Trinity’s 1962 Æolian Skinner Organ.
Robert has served Trinity as organist/choir Director/Director of Music longer than anyone in the parish’s 135 year history. A concert gives an organist opportunity to explore the various sounds of the instrument, and play repertoire that is not necessarily intended for regular service use, and/or heard in its entirety and not broken up throughout a liturgy. This concert will include some of Robert’s favorites from the organ repertoire. This special anniversary program centers around J. S. Bach.

Dietrich Buxtehude was organist at the Marienkirche in Lübeck, Germany and his music inspired the young J.S. Bach to spend time observing and studying with him. French organist Nicolas DeGrigny held musical posts in Paris and Reims, and J.S. Bach was known to have copies of DeGrigny’s organ works. C.P E Bach, the second surviving son of J. S. Bach, became a musician in his own right. Felix Mendelssohn is credited for the 19th century rediscovery of Bach’s music; Mendelssohn gave performances of Bach’s music, introducing it to new audiences. Brahms wrote his organ music bowing to the traditions of J. S. Bach, but with his own wonderfully unique creative style.
Trinity Episcopal Church is located at 81 Elm Street in Concord; this special concert is FREE and open to the community. Trinity is fully handicap-accessible. A reception will follow the concert. All in the community are invited to attend.
