Adam Sandler Production Company Can't Film In Danvers Homes

A Danvers bylaw is preventing Adam Sandler's production company from using residences as movie sets.

DANVERS, MA – Film companies can shoot movies in commercial and public areas of Danvers, but for residences they'll have to go elsewhere. That's what Adam Sandler's production company, Happy Madison Productions, heard when they approached the town.

According to Town Manager Steve Bartha, there is no special permit process in the zoning bylaw to allow for such a use on residential properties. Wicked Local reported that Happy Madison approached a family on Bishop Drive hoping to use their home for Adam Sandler's next movie.

Bartha said the movie production company approached the town in 2009, and received the same answer. They are still able to film in commercial and public parts of town.

In order to change the zoning, the issue must be approved at Town Meeting after gaining the support of the Board of Selectmen and the Planning Board, according to Bartha.

"The Bylaw has been applied consistently in Danvers for more than three decades, including in 2009 when this same film company approached the Town and received the same guidance," said Bartha in an email.
