Elliott Landing by Cummings Slated to Open in Fall 2016

Elliott Landing by Cummings slated to open fall 2016

Cummings Properties, the Woburn-based commercial real estate firm known for transforming Beverly’s dilapidated former United Shoe Machinery Corporation site into the thriving Cummings Center office and technology park is adding a major residential building on the property.

The firm received a green light this summer to build the residences on the Elliott Street side of the 2 million-square-foot campus. Steel erection began in November, and occupancy is anticipated for fall 2016.

Dubbed “Elliott Landing by Cummings,” it will offer seven one-bedroom units, 60 two-bedroom units, and six three-bedroom units. According to Steve Drohosky, general manager at Cummings Center, the firm anticipates that the new housing option will attract professionals who work in Beverly and the surrounding area, including at Cummings Center, which is home to more than 500 businesses.

“There is increasing interest—in greater Boston and across the country—in living very close to where one works,” said Drohosky. “This dynamic draws people to urban areas, and we want to bring it to Beverly.”

In addition to numerous local and global high-tech, financial, and life sciences firms, Cummings Center provides commercial space for a diverse array of professional and personal services, medical practitioners, and restaurants.

“There are great potential synergies here, with residents having the convenience of being able to walk to work as well as to dinner, the gym, day care, their doctor, their hair stylist, and any one of the other varied amenities on and near campus,” said Drohosky. “We expect that local businesses will benefit from the regular patronage of these residents.”

Elliott Landing is Cummings Properties’ second residential project. In 1986, it built the four-story, 150-unit Place Lane Condominium in Woburn. The 45-year-old firm also has two affiliated independent and assisted living communities: New Horizons at Choate in Woburn and New Horizons at Marlborough.
