Dangerous Sidewalk

Fall Danger

I am writing to warn people of a dangerous situation which exists on the sidewalk in front of Daniella's restaurant in downtown Danvers. On December 11, 2020, a mild, dry evening, with no snow or ice, I picked up a takeout order at Daniella's at 6:30 pm. After leaving Daniella's with my order, as I was about to cross the street, my toe caught on the raised curb on the sidewalk in front of Daniella's. The resulting fall pitched me forward into the street.

The fall was a serious one. I badly bruised both knees, sustained a mild concussion and broke my nose, resulting in three doctors' visits, x-rays and massive bruising of my face. I reported the fall to both Daniella's and the Town of Danvers. The manager at Daniella's was sympathetic, but I have not since been contacted by anyone at the restaurant.

The town of Danvers responded immediately, and it is my understanding that they are currently reviewing the situation to determine who owns the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. Since my accident, I have learned of one other person who sustained a similar fall in front of the restaurant. So, take heed - the raised curb is impossible to see at night. I would hate to have someone have an even more serious fall than the one I sustained.
