Danvers Fire Gets $15K State Grant For Thermal-Image Cameras

DANVERS, MA — A nearly $1,500 state grant will go toward thermal-imaging cameras, four-gas meters and fitness equipment for the Danvers Fire Department.

Danvers Fire Chief Bob Amerault said the department received $14,966 from the state's Department of Fire Services Fiscal Year 2021 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program.

"We are grateful to receive this funding to help ensure we have the most up-to-date equipment available during an emergency response," Amerault said.

Danvers was one of 300 communities to receive the grants totaling $4 million. The program is set to distribute $25 million over the next five years.

"I am grateful that we are able to continue supporting this initiative and make sure that firefighters not only go home safe at the end of every shift, but also that they maintain their health during and after their careers," State Fire Marshal Peter Ostroskey said. "This funding couldn’t come at a better time either.

"With the financial challenges that COVID-19 has brought to so many Massachusetts municipalities, this grant funding will mitigate critical budget gaps in many departments."
