Danvers High Soccer Advances to Quarterfinals This Week

The St. John's Prep soccer team has also advanced to the quarterfinals.

Danvers High soccer is still alive in the playoffs, as both the girls' and boys' teams battled for narrow wins against their respective first round opponents in the Division 2 North tournament.

The girls took down Marblehead in a wild game, 2-1, Friday that went into double overtime and was finally decided on penalty kicks. The boys meanwhile, knocked off Greater Lowell Sunday evening, 4-3.

The girls play again Monday at Wilmington (4 p.m.) in the quarterfinals while the boys play at Masconomet Tuesday (2 p.m.).

The only other playoff action in Danvers now is at St. John's Prep with the Eagles' soccer team. The Prep defeated Andover Sunday in the first round, 2-0, and hosts Lexington for the quarterfinals Tuesday (2 p.m.). The Eagles are seeded 3rd in the Division I North bracket.

This past weekend proved to be a shutout for the Prep's football squad as well. The Eagles, the No. 4 seed in Division I North, hosted Lowell (No. 5 seed) Saturday to a 41-0 rout and were knocked from playoff contention. Danvers High lost, 30-0, to Masconomet on Friday.

The North Shore Tech/Essex Aggie footballers qualified for the playoffs as well, but lost to Cathedral High School, 18-6, on Saturday in Division 6 play. The combined girls' soccer team lost, 7-0, to Georgetown in a first round game Saturday in the Division 4 North bracket.
