Danvers Man Charged With Sexual Abuse At Maine Corrections Center

DANVERS, MA — A former Maine corrections officer living in Danvers surrendered to Cumberland County Sherriff investigators on sexual assault charges Thursday.

Jonathan Williams, 30, is facing charges of gross sexual assault, unlawful sexual contact and unlawful sexual touching following an investigation into crimes reported at a Maine corrections facility from October through December 2019, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office said Williams is accused of committing the assault while he was supervising the victim.

Williams worked as a corrections officer in Maine for five years.

"Since Corrections Officers have supervisory and disciplinary authority over inmates, activities such as this are not tolerated by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office nor any other individual in our profession," the Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said the investigation began in November 2020 and that "several" warrants were issued for his arrest.

Williams was booked at the Cumberland County Jail and has an arraignment set for June 9. He was released on $1,000 cash bail.
