Danvers McDonald's Gets A Makeover

Look for new technology, menu and table service at good ole MickyD's

DANVERS, MA – Those who visit the McDonald’s on Andover street in Danvers will notice some changes in the customer service experience starting at a Grand Reopening Friday, Feb. 16.

New kiosks have been installed, where customers can choose their meals and check out on their own. For those staying to eat, staff will bring the order out to customers. That's right: Table service.

Co-owner Lindsay Wallin, whose father, Bob King, is the owner-operator of some 19 McDonald’s restaurants in the region, said a number of their McDonalds' in the area are slated for the upgrade. Last summer it was the Beverly McDonald's.

“We’re excited to share this evolved experience at McDonald’s with our local customers,” said King and Wallin of Melrose.

The changes reflect a new restaurant model that has been rolled out in more than 125 McDonald’s restaurants across New England that gives guests more choice and control by evolving how they order, what they order, how they pay and how they are served.

It's also part of a wider effort to liven up a brand that has been around for some six decades. Gone are the cafeteria-style vibe with the clown. For years, McDonald's has fought a sales slump as it competes against upscale fast-food chains like Shake Shack and BGood.

Friday, Feb. 16, the Danvers McDonald's will start a week-long grand opening celebration.

Local Danvers' State Rep. Ted Speliotis will be on the scene Friday for the ribbon cutting celebration.

The McDonald’s is compatible with the mobile app and allows customers to place orders and pay within the app, for quick pick up by walking in to the counter, going through the drive-thru or via newly added curbside delivery. At the drive-thru, customers give the order code to the crew, then pull forward to the pick-up window.

“We appreciate and value our guests’ feedback on this new experience, and we’re looking forward to offering them a new way to dine at McDonald’s," said King.

As part of the Grand Opening the local Danvers McDonald’s will be supporting several Danvers organizations with monetary donations of up to $5,000. Among the recipients are Danvers Rail Trail, Danvers People to People Food Pantry, Danvers High School DECA program as well as Danvers Police Department’s DARE program.
