Danvers Police Mourn Longtime Sergeant Richard Stoney

DANVERS, MA — The Danvers police community is remembering the life and contributions to the department and town of Richard Stoney this week after the longtime member of the department died on Monday.

Danvers police said Stoney, a lifelong Danvers resident who served for 38 years in the department and made the rank of sergeant, was with his family in Florida when he died.

"He was always at the ready to crack a corny joke or to remind you to 'grab your raincoat' at the slightest chance of a drizzle," Danvers police said.

Stoney retired from the department in 2012 and spent his retirement going back and forth to Florida with his wife, Tracy, while he worked part-time for Lyons (Atlantic) Ambulance.

"We ask that you please keep the Stoney Family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," Danvers police said. "Sergeant Stoney, you will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing you."
