Danvers Seasonal Pop-Up Park Planned For Maple Street

The town is seeking grants, donations and word-of-mouth support for the proposed seasonal park at the corner of Maple and Conant streets.

DANVERS, MA — As Danvers residents return to shopping districts and open spaces together more than a year after the onset of the coronavirus health crisis the town is looking to give them a place to gather in a fun and safe environment.

Town officials are seeking grant awards, donations and good word-of-mouth from the community as it anticipates installing a public seating and game area at the corner of Maple and Conant streets.

"The downtown has a lot to offer," the town said, "but there is little space for people to stop and enjoy it all. The pop-up park could be the new downtown spot for people to sit and read a book, have a cup of coffee with a friend, meet their kids after school or enjoy a summer dinner outside."

The temporary park is planned to be open seasonally each spring through the fall with the possibility that it could be moved to different areas of the town.

"Of course, if we find that everyone enjoyed the location we will work toward making it permanent," officials said.

The community corner plans to include mural installations and community message boards. It will also include shade umbrellas and potted planters.

The town is hoping to raise $8,000 in donations, which will trigger $16,000 in matching funds from MassDevelopment.
