Danvers Selectmen Will Hear From New Osborn Tavern Owner
A new owner is looking to take over the liquor license and open a new bar at the Maple Street location that once house the Osborn Tavern.
DANVERS, MA — Danvers selectmen are scheduled to consider an application to transfer the Osborn Tavern's liquor license to a new owner when they meet Tuesday.
The new bar would be called Pub 49. According to state corporation records, the bar would be owned by Elaine Byrne, who owned Sully C's on Route 1 in Saugus before it was destroyed in a 2015 fire. Byrne opened Sully C's in 2012 but ended up selling the liquor license after a dispute with the building's owner about who would pay for repairs after the fire.
Pub 49 will be managed by Melissa Bucci, according to the selectmen's agenda for Tuesday meeting. Byrne and Bucci were not immediately available for comment Tuesday morning.

The Osborn Tavern closed in February after a series of liquor license violations over the previous two years. At the time, the bar was appealing a suspension of its liquor license by Danvers selectmen, who found the tavern had over-served three women on Aug. 30, including one who was pulled over as she tried to drive away from the Maple Street establishment.
Last year, the tavern successfully appealed a six-day suspension stemming from separate incidents in November 2018. On Nov. 2 police responded to a report of a fight that was started by a man and woman who were "heavily intoxicated," according to police reports. Then on Nov. 10, police found a man sleeping in his car behind the Osborn because, he told police, he was too drunk to drive home.
