Danvers to Kick-Off Family Festival with Roaring 20s Party
The organizers of Danvers Family Festival have decided to drop a former reception for a Roaring 20s-style "Speakeasy" party at the Danversport Yacht Club.

Orangizers for the Danvers Family Festival have decided to discontinue the Baron Mayer Award Champagne Reception to kick off the festival in place for an event that will draw in new families, according to an article in the Salem News.Â
The Baron Mayer Award Champagne Reception honors a longtime selectmen in Danvers. However, the organizers felt that many new families may not know this former selectman and decided to replace the event with Speakeasy-type event.Â
With the success of shows like Boardwalk Empire and the release of Leonardo DiCaprio's feature film version of "The Great Gatspy," the festival organizers felt people would respond more to a party that mimicked the Roaring 20s Speakeasy parties.Â
