Danvers Water Main Break May Discolor Tap Water

A water main break on Thursday may be affecting water around town.

DANVERS, MA – The water main break on Maple Street on Thursday may be turning nearby tap water brown, according to the Danvers Department of Public Works.

A post on the Danvers DPW Facebook page advised the town that the water main break stirred up iron sediment that naturally occurs inside pipes, and that may turn household water brown.

"If you have discolored water, run the cold water at the highest point in your house for 10-20 minutes to clear it," said the post. The DPW also advised people not to do laundry until the water runs clear in case it discolors clothing.
