Get A Flu Shot, Donate A Vaccine

Walgreens and the United Nations Foundation will donate the cost of a vaccine for every flu shot or immunization given at Walgreens.

For every shot given at Walgreens pharmacies until Aug. 31, 2017, Walgreens will donate the value of a vaccine through the United Nations Foundation's Shot@Life campaign. The campaign aims to protect children in developing countries from polio and measles, and has administered 15 million vaccines since its inception in 2013.

The cost of each shot is 22 cents, and Walgreens will donate up to $2 million for every shot administered in its stores. Walgreens offers 17 CDC-recommended vaccines to protect influenza, shingles, pneumonia, whooping cough, meningitis, hepatitis, and other diseases. No appointment is necessary to get a shot.

"Since the age of 3 when I contracted polio in my family’s village in Nigeria, I have experienced firsthand the challenges faced due to this disease that is preventable with a polio vaccination," said Dennis Ogbe, an ambassador for the United Nations Foundation’s Shot@Life program and 2016 Get a Shot. Give a Shot. spokesperson. "Through programs such as Walgreens Get a Shot. Give a Shot., children in developing countries will have access to these critical vaccines. No child should have to live with the lifelong consequences of polio. Every child should have a shot at life."

The UN Foundation found that one in five children don't have access to immunizations, and that a child dies ever 20 seconds from a vaccine-preventable disease.

All Walgreens, Healthcare Clinics, and Duane Reades locations are participating. Here are the Walgreens locations on the North Shore:
