Governor Signs Bill Granting Danvers 10 New Liquor Licenses

The licenses had been approved locally in May 2017 but just got state approval on Nov. 2.

DANVERS, MA -- Gov. Charlie Baker signed a bill last month that grants Danvers ten new liquor licenses. The new licenses had been approved locally by Danvers Town Meeting in 2017, but needed approval from the state legislature before they could be granted. The new licenses are not tied to specific locations, according to a copy of the legislation, allowing owners to keep the license if they move their business to a new location.

The licenses are for bars and restaurants and will be distributed in the Route 1 and Route 114 district, as well as the downtown area. Under Danvers bylaws, holders of licenses for on-premises consumption of alcohol need to also serve food. Danvers now has 12 liquor licenses to grant, in addition to the 50 that are already in use.
