Housing Agency Begins New Project on Coolidge Road

Here's what you need to know today in Danvers.

Today is Thursday, Dec. 26. Here are five things to know today in Danvers.

  1. A home at 55 Coolidge Rd. that's been empty and boarded up for 20 years was finally knocked down to a pile of rubble on Monday to start off the latest housing project with Habitat for Humanity-North Shore. The local Habitat chapter says construction of a new four-bedroom affordable home will begin in the spring. Ownership is done by lottery and the organization is currently taking applications. Visit the website or call 781-598-0310 for more details.
  2. The Danvers Falcons boys' varsity hockey team is off to a rough start at a 1-3 record, but hopes to turn things around against Lynnfield Thursday in the Saugus Bank Tournament at the Kasabuski Rink (noon). Danvers plays again Friday. The Falcons defeated Winthrop two weeks ago, but then saw losses against Marblehead, Beverly and Masconomet. You can follow the team online here.
  3. Danvers Recreation and Extra Innings are teaming up to offer a baseball clinic over Christmas break for kids ages 7-12. The clinic will run two days this week (Dec. 26-27) and next (Dec. 30-31). The cost is $99. You can register online here.
  4. The Conservation Commission is scheduled to meet Thursday (7 p.m.) at Town Hall.
  5. There are nature crafts for kids ages 6-10 at Endicott Park on Friday with Ranger Christine. The event will be held inside the Carriage House from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. The cost is $29 per child. You can register online here.
