Registration Opens for Fourth Annual Step Up For Colleen 5K

The 5K walk/run, in memory of Danvers High School teacher Colleen Ritzer, will take place on May 7.

DANVERS, MA – Registration is open for the fourth annual Step Up For Colleen 5K in Andover on May 7. The walk/run is held in memory of slain Danvers High School teacher Colleen Ritzer, and raises money for college scholarships for local high school seniors.

"The community has come together in an incredible way to honor Colleen's legacy, and to fund a lasting scholarship that will allow her love of life and for teaching to live on in other educators who share her passion," said race director Nina Caron in a press release.

The 5K has attracted thousands of participants of all age grounds to the USA Track & Field certified course in Andover. The Colleen E. Ritzer Scholarship Fund awards college scholarships to seniors from Andover, Danvers, and Nashoba Regional high schools who plan to pursue a teaching career.

Colleen Ritzer was a lifelong resident of Andover, and a math teacher at Danvers High School. She was pursuing a graduate degree at Salem State University before her death in 2013.
