Ride to Raise Funds for Cancer in Danvers on Sept. 8

A Reason to Ride is in its sixth running this year.

Danvers, in conjunction with Fuddruckers, will be once again hosting the sixth annual Reason to Ride on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 8 a.m.

The annual bike-a-thon rides throughout the North Shore and raises funds for critical cancer car and research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

“We aim to raise $100,000 from the event this year and would like to see more than 300 riders come out,” states Tom DesFosses, cancer survivor and founder of A Reason to Ride. “Cancer is one of those diseases that touches everyone’s life, whether you were diagnosed yourself, a family member or close friend. This ride means a lot to me and my family, and not only helps raise money to support research at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, but also helps provide care to people and families each year who cope with one of the most horrendous illnesses in the world.”

DesFosses started a Reason to Ride after he was diagnosed with primary CNS lymphoma, which is a cancerous brain tumor. However, a doctor at Beth Isreal, Dr. Eric Wong, was able to save his life, and since, DesFossess has been raising money in his name.

So far the charity has raised over $250,000 for cancer research.
