Your Guide: 'Sean's Ride' Fundraiser is This Saturday

Danvers and Beverly police officers have organized a fundraiser as they prepare for 'Sean's Ride,' a 65-mile bike ride from Providence to the Boston Marathon finish line.

Supporters of "Sean's Ride," a 65-mile bicycle trek from Providence to the Boston Marathon finish line, are being invited to a fundraiser this Saturday.

The "Sean's Ride" fundraiser is being organized by Danvers and Beverly police officers, according to the Salem News, in honor of MIT officer Sean Collier, who was killed during the manhunt following the Marathon bombing in April.

Danvers officer Kevin Wood and Beverly officer Ted Lane are running point for Saturday's event and both men, along with several fellow officers and Danvers firefighters, will be riding in the 65-mile trek, which is actually the last leg of the Tour De Force.

The tour is an annual ride from New York City to Boston, ending on Sept. 11 and benefits the families of officers killed in the line of duty.

Wood told the Salem News the idea for the fundraiser came about after hearing the third leg of the tour had been named for Collier. The fallen officer also had local ties as a graduate of Salem State and a former security guard at the Liberty Tree Mall.

The fundraiser will be held July 27 at the Hasting House at 14 Oak St. in Beverly Farms from 7-11 p.m.

The night will include food, music, beer, raffles and a silent auction. Those attending are asked to make a $10 donation to benefit fallen officers' families.
