St. John's Prep Hosts Xaverian for Next Chapter in Thanksgiving Day Rivalry

Here's what you need to know today in Danvers.

Today is Thursday, Nov. 28. Here are five things to know today for Thanksgiving in Danvers.

  1. It's Thanksgiving and also the first day of Chanukah.
  2. Thanksgiving Day football: The Danvers Falcons head up to Gloucester to try and break the Fishermen's reign, and back home in Danvers, St. John's Prep hosts Xaverian for another chapter in the holiday rivalry. Game time is 10:15 a.m. at Cronin Memorial Stadium (the stadium will open at 9 a.m.). Tickets are $10 per person and available at the gate. If you can't watch the game in person, just head to the Prep website for a live stream of the action.
  3. Santa returns to the Danvers SwampWalk on Saturday to raise funds for Toys for Tots. You can take pictures with Santa starting at 11 a.m.
  4. Don't forget trash and recycling pickup is delayed one day due to the holiday. Thursday's collection will be on Friday and Friday's collection on Saturday.
  5. Operation Troop Support needs some extra hands Saturday when it puts addresses on those thousands of Christmas packages volunteers have spent time wrapping and brings them over to the Danvers Post Office for shipment overseas. The day begins at 9 a.m. at the VFW Hall at 5 Conant St. Stop down if you'd like to help out and volunteer.
