St. John's Prep Senior Breaks 88-Year-Old School Record
Nate Hobbs broke the long jump record that had been set by Jim Pender in 1935.

DANVERS, MA -- The oldest track and field record at St. John's Prep in Danvers was shattered yesterday, when senior Nate Hobbs recorded a jump of 23'7.75". That broke Jim Pender's record of 22'9.5", which was set in the 1935 track season. Hobbs's jump fell just short of the state record of 23'10.5", which was set in 1985 by Wareham's Greg Ouellette.
Hobbs made his jump, which was good enough for first place, during Monday's Division 1 championships at Andover High School. The jump beat his previous personal best of 22'8". St. John's Prep finished eighth overall with 34 points.
Hobbs also starred for the school's basketball team, and is considering a post-secondary prep year before continuing with basketball and track in college. Pender was inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998.
