WATCH: President Obama Praises Abbey D'Agostino for Showing What the Olympic Spirit is All About

The Topsfield native was at the White House with the rest of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic teams.

It's not everyday that someone gets a shoutout from President Barack Obama but Topsfield's Abbey D'Agostino can add that to her list of accolades.

Thursday, the President hosted the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic teams at the White House. While listing off the accomplishments of America's finest athletes, Obama note the infamous moment when D'Agostino and Nikki Hamblin of New Zealand collided during a preliminary round of the 5,000 run, but got up and helped Hamblin get to her feet to finish the race.

"We're in awe of American athletes like Abbey D'Agostino who showed that the Olympics are about more than setting records, it's about sportsmanship and character," Obama said. "That's a remarkable sentiment in the middle of an individual race but that's what the Olympic spirit and American spirit should be all about."
