What You Need to Know About Danvers' Overnight Parking Ban

The Department of Public Works is reminding residents about how exactly the new emergency parking ban works.

The new program, begun last winter, still runs from Dec. 1 to April 1, but residents can park their cars on the street between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. unless there's a ban.

If there is a ban, it means there's actually a snowstorm or imminent threat of one. And residents can still park on the street during that time for less than one hour (if they need to get to a pharmacy, etc.).

The DPW says town-wide notification will be made via Connect CTY by 7 p.m. the night before a parking ban goes into effect. Vehicles that remain on the street during a ban may be ticketed and/or towed.

A second public notice will go out when the parking ban is lifted, although the ban may last for a day or longer during those hours if need be.

As for the CTY system, landlines of all residents and businesses are automatically included in the notification system. If you'd like to receive notices via cell phone or email, sign up on the town website under the "Connect CTY" link on the righthand bottom section of the homepage.

Follow the prompts to “Modify Contact Information.” Notices can then be sent by email or text message.

Public notices are also sent to news media outlets and DCAT and are posted on the town website and the DPW Facebook and Twitter pages. The police department also posts notices via its social media accounts.

If you need a more visual alert, electronic message boards will be placed at the intersections of Poplar and Conant streets and Maple and Forest streets.
