Taxi Escape Fails, Bank Robber Caught: Police

Police said the bank robber - a Dedham man - and taxi driver conspired to hit BayCoast Bank in Seekonk; both were arrested.

A Dedham man who allegedly robbed BayCoast Bank in Seekonk Tuesday was arrested after fleeing the scene in a taxi, police said.

The taxi driver was also arrested.

Police said Clyde Menelas, 28, of Dedham, displayed a note to a teller at about 10 a.m. and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash. He then hopped into the taxi, driven by Kenny Jean, 20, of Boston, police said.

Seekonk police issued a bulletin and a short time later, East Providence, R.I., police located the taxi and took the pair into custody, police said.

“Their vigilance in monitoring our activity was crucial to the apprehension of suspects and preservation of evidence,” Seekonk Police Chief Craig Mace said in a statement.
