Dedham Police: Car Rented from Avis, Holiday Inn Reported Stolen
The following information was provided by the Dedham Police Department. Where arrests are mentioned, they do not indicate conviction.

Monday, Oct. 6
At 9:40 a.m., a caller reported that she had received a phone call from someone claiming she had won a grant from the Federal Government and that she needed to pay a filing fee. The caller told her to do so by purchasing a Green Dot Card and sending the funds to claim her grant. She knew, however, that the call was a scam, police said, and did not purchase a card or send money.
At 12:20 p.m., police responded to Anthropologie at Legacy Place on a report of road rage. Upon arrival, police spoke with a caller who said she had been walking on the first floor of the parking garage at the shopping center when a light blue-colored vehicle turned a corner at a high rate of speed, causing her to jump out of the way. The vehicle then allegedly followed the woman to a crosswalk in front of The Yardhouse, where the vehicle cut her off again. The woman was advised to call police if she encounters any other disturbance with the vehicle.

At 1:10 p.m., Dedham officers on patrol in the area of Veterans Road and Oakland Street pulled over a driver whom they knew to have a suspended driver’s license. The driver, Cyrstal Silva, was subsequently arrested on scene, according to police records.
At 3:25 p.m., police responded to TJ Maxx at the Dedham Mall on a report of a shoplifter. A suspect identified as Cullen Breton allegedly stole $58.47 worth of t-shirts and men’s boxer shorts from the store. Officers arrested Breton on a straight warrant out of Quincy District Court.

Tuesday, Oct. 7
At 11:10 a.m., police received a report from an Avis Car Rental employee that a vehicle from the business had been stolen. The car, a 2014 red Chevrolet Cruze, was rented on July 18 from the Holiday Inn in Dedham and was supposed to be returned on Aug. 8, but was never returned to the business.
Wednesday, Oct. 8
At 1:43 p.m., police responded to a report of malicious damage to a vehicle. The car, a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck had been parked in front of a resident’s house. The resident noticed scratches across much of the car, appearing as though someone had keyed the entire vehicle on all sides. The resident reported that he did not know of anyone who would do such a thing.
Friday, Oct. 10
At 8:03 p.m., a caller reported to police that someone claiming to be from the IRS had called her parents and claimed that they owed more than $2,400 in taxes or they would be arrested.
Saturday, Oct. 11
At 8:50 a.m., police received a report from a local business that two batteries had been stolen from a truck parked on the business’s property. An employee told police that the battery cable had been cut and that a month prior someone had smashed the windhshield on several vehicles on the property.
At 2:06 p.m., police received a report from a local resident that he had found a rifle. The gun had been discovered after the resident had been cleaning out her father-in-law’s house. Police were unable to determine the make and model of the rifle, which they confiscated and placed in a gun locker at the Dedham Police Department.
At 5 p.m., police responded to BJ’s Wholesale on a report of damage to a vehicle. Upon arrival officers investigated and found that fresh damage to a vehicle in the lot had been caused by a shopping cart.
At 5:14 p.m., officers received a report of malicious damage to a vehicle on Vincent Road, where a 2001 Grand Marquis had been reportedly struck with paintballs sometime overnight, and that the driver’s side window had been shattered.
Monday, Oct. 13
At 11:36 p.m., police responded to a report of a break-in. Officers spoke with the owner of the reported residence, where, after investigating, officers determined there did not appear to be any sign of an attempted break-in.
