Dedham Police Issue Halloween Safety Tips

Three Halloween-related events are taking place on Saturday

Dedham Police Chief Michael d’Entremont has issued a list of Halloween safety tips for local families to keep in mind as the holiday approaches next week.

Parents and adults are asked to drive carefully on Halloween if they are transporting children from home to home, and should watch for other children on the roads Halloween night. Children, moreover, should exit cars on the curbside of the street and away from traffic.

The following three Halloween-themed events will also be taking place on Saturday, Oct. 25:

  • Third Annual Legacy Place Trick or Treat & Boo Bash (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
  • Dedham Square Trunk or Treat at the Dedham Town Hall parking lot (3-5:30 p.m.)
  • Manor Neighborhood Halloween Block Party (3-6 p.m.)

The following safety tips were issued by the DPD:

  • Use costumes, beards and wigs that are flame resistant.
  • Do not use masks that cover eyes, noses or mouths.
  • Wear bright clothing and use reflective tape or a flashing light clip.
  • Children should use the sidewalk whenever possible.
  • Small children should always go with an adult.
  • Trick or Treat at homes you are familiar with.
  • Children should never go inside of the house.
  • An adult should check all treats before eating.
