Dedham Sisters Compete Abroad in World Orienteering Championships

Hillary and Samantha Saeger, are set to compete in Sweden from Aug. 20 to Aug. 27.

Two sisters from Dedham, Mass., Hillary and Samantha Saeger, are set to compete for Team USA in the Nokia Tyres World Orienteering Championships. The competition will take place in Stromstad-Tanum, Sweden, Aug. 20-27.

Orienteering, a challenging sport that involves using a map and compass to race across terrain, is highly competitive abroad. The Saeger sisters were chosen for the U.S. team earlier this year. Samantha will race in the middle distance, long distance and relay. Hillary will race in the individual sprint, and the sisters will compete together in the sprint relay race.

Samantha, 33, graduated from Dedham High School in 2000 and went on to Colby College, where she graduated in 2004. She is currently living in Uppsala, Sweden and has been on the U.S. orienteering team since 2005. Hillary, 31, graduated from Dedham High School in 2003 and Marist College in 2007. She is currently living in Dedham and was previously on the U.S. orienteering team from 2006-2008. In addition, she been a member of the U.S. rowing team since 2009. The athletic pair are excited to represent the U.S. together as they prepare to head to Sweden for competition.
