Horse Thieves Tavern is Open for Business and Cautious Fun

Local tavern is now offering outdoor patio dining and limited indoor seating

After a three-month hiatus during a statewide restaurant lockdown, Horse Thieves Tavern (HTT) has reopened its doors and created a sheltered sidewalk space for sit-down dining.

Since March, in accordance with state law due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the tavern has been open for take-out and curbside pick-up dinner orders only. However, in recent weeks the virus numbers have decreased across the state and activity levels are cautiously rising.

In June, as summer approached and the state started to slowly reopen, local shops and restaurants around Dedham Square began to resume business not-quite-as-usual but with some familiar characteristics. With social distancing precautions, use of masks and extra sanitizing practices in place, HTT now provides limited indoor seating, outdoor patio dining and take-out dinner options.

“We are so glad to be open again and serving our community,” says HTT co-owner Chris Lutes. “The town has done a great job supporting our outdoor dining efforts, and everyone is excited to start reconnecting at a safe distance, especially this time of year.”

Keeping with its seasonal menu offerings, HTT has added house-made strawberry shortcake and a strawberry mint mojito, both made with locally grown strawberries, to its summer dessert and cocktail menus. Their springtime asparagus salad is still available while ingredients are still fresh and in season.

The tavern sources several of their food items from the Dedham Farmers Market and local and regional suppliers including Kimball Farm and Little Leaf Farms.

HTT is currently open for dinner Tuesday to Sunday from 4:30pm. It is closed Mondays and for the Fourth of July.
