How do Dedham's Property Taxes Compare to Nearby Towns?

Curious about how Dedham’s property taxes compare to that of surrounding towns? The Boston Business Journal has compiled an analysis highlighting property taxes in communities across the Commonwealth.

The new report details “disparities in the average property-tax bills paid by homeowners throughout the Commonwealth, with many communities in the wealthier suburbs around Boston posting average levies that are two-to-three times the state median of $3,533,” the report reads.

About 14 communities had average tax bills of about $10,000 for single-family homes, compared to 13 communities in 2014, according to BBJ, with Duxbury seeing the largest year-over-year increases in its average property tax.

So, how do Dedham’s 2014 property taxes compare to towns nearby?

The average property tax bill for Dedham residents in 2014 was listed as $6,217, according to BBJ. The numbers rank Dedham at 64th on BBJ’s list of cities and towns with biggest property tax bills in Massachusetts, and show a 5-percent change in residents’ tax bills from 2013 (while also showing an 83-percent change since 2003).

Property taxes in Norwood, by comparison, were listed by BBJ at $4,205, while Westwood taxes were listed at $9,601 for 2014; Needham’s were listed at $8,765.
