State Police Probe Cause of Fatal Dedham Crash

A 44-year-old woman walking along I-95 was struck and killed Sunday night.

The Massachusetts State Police have launched an investigation after a woman walking along I-95 south in Dedham was struck and killed by a motorist Sunday night.

Marjeta Ziu, 44, of Roslindale, was fatally struck around 5 p.m., police officials said. Ziu was walking in the traveled part of the roadway for some unknown reason. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators are working to determine the facts and circumstances surrounding Ziu’s death. They hope to determine exactly why she was walking in a travel lane.

The 56-year-old motorist who hit Ziu, a resident of Walpole, was transported to the hospital for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries. It’s not known if the man will face charges in connection the the crash.

State troopers were assisted by Dedham and Westwood fire officials at the scene. The right two lanes of the highway were blocked off to traffic for several hours while crews worked.
