Upcoming Activities Encourage Involvement in Local Government

Government 101 to be held on Zoom, Monday, January 25th at 7 pm

In preparation for the upcoming town election season, Women in Democracy Dedham (WINDD) is hosting multiple events and services to help demystify the election process, prepare potential candidates, and inform voters about their options. The first of these will be the popular and long-running Local Government 101: How You Can Make a Difference in Dedham program on Monday, January 25th from 7:00 – 8:30 pm. Due to Covid restrictions, the event will be held via Zoom.

This free event is targeted to anyone interested in serving in elected or appointed positions, including Town Meeting, or those who just want to learn more about the local electoral process. Paul Munchbach, Town Clerk, will explain how to pull papers to run for office and provide an overview of campaign finance requirements. Dan Driscoll, Town Moderator, will give an overview of the Town Meeting form of government. Residents will also have the opportunity to ask questions of a panel of elected officials.

Candidates considering a run in the upcoming election are encouraged to attend; time will be reserved to introduce any candidates who have already decided to run.

Interested residents can register at http://bit.ly/WINDD101 or on the Women in Democracy Dedham Facebook page. All registered attendees will be emailed the Zoom link on Monday, shortly before the event.

WINDD is also pleased to announce that, once again this year, candidate statements will be made available on the WINDD website. “For the past several years we’ve heard from voters who are looking for more information on the candidates, particularly those running for Town Meeting. We’re pleased to invite EVERY candidate running for town-wide office or Town Meeting to submit a brief statement to be displayed via our webpage,” said Sarah McDonald, a member of the WINDD Leadership Team. WINDD will reach out to every candidate who returns nomination papers with details on how to participate and will announce more details at the January 25th event.
