CASES IN MASSACHUSETTS

New cases are rising. The average number of cases/week is up 29% compared with 2 weeks earlier (NY Times). The increase is likely due to relaxation about social distancing/mask use, to the acceleration of reopening, and probably also because the B 1.1.7 variant, which spreads more easily, is now circulating in Massachusetts.

VACCINATION IN DOVER

How soon is COVID vaccination effective?

You are considered fully vaccinated if you have received two doses of either the Moderna or Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines or a single dose of the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine more than 14 days ago.

Can fully vaccinated people still be infected with COVID?

It is clear that full vaccination protects people from severe COVID infections including hospitalization and death. However, sometimes people can become infected and have relatively mild or asymptomatic infections despite being vaccinated.

Does vaccination prevent people from spreading COVID-19 to others?

Because fully vaccinated individuals can become infected with COVID, it is possible, though not yet proven, that they may be able to spread the infection. Research studies about this are underway. It is important to continue to wear a mask and practice social distancing to protect other people in the event that you become infected after vaccination.
