Local Artists Hold 'Creativity Bonanza' for Metrowest Kids During February School Vacation

Artists promise to engage children in a wide variety of creative activities.

MetroWest artists, educators and laughaholics Cheryl Cohen and Giulietta “Julie” Nardone will lead the ‘playshop,’ “Creativity Bonanza: Rev Up Your Child’s Imagination,” an innovative, two-day program during February school vacation for Metrowest children in grades 3 to 7.

The program will be held Tuesday, February 17 and Wednesday, February 18, 9:30 am to 2:30 pm, at Cheryl Cohen’s Mosaic Studio and Art Center, 360 Woodland Street, Holliston. Snow date is February 19. The program is limited to 12 students.

The creators describe the program as “mesmerizing children while immersing them in a wide variety of creative activities designed to engage their imaginations.”

Cohen has been a fulltime mosaic artist since retiring as an elementary school occupational therapist two years ago. Her mosaic style combines everything she loves, including glass, tile, mirror, stone, shells, jewelry, and beads as well as shards of pottery and china.

Nardone has been offering writing, painting and creativity programs since 2004. In 2011, she founded The Off Center for Wild and Disobedient Creativity in Ashland.

“Cultivating imagination will be the next big thing,” Nardone said. “Knowledge may help you pass a standardized test, but imagination will enable you to create what’s never been seen before.”

Cohen added, “Helping children channel their natural, in-born, youthful creativity provides a conduit for carrying this innovative spirit into adulthood.”
