Students of all ages have access to an affordable education at Middlesex Community College. To help prospective students and their families better understand their options when it comes to starting college, Middlesex is hosting a Virtual Open House – Summer Series. The first session – How to Make College Affordable – will take place from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15.

“At Middlesex, we want students to be set up for success from day one,” said Jillian Freitas-Haley, MCC’s Assistant Dean of Admission. “Our Admissions Virtual Events have allowed us to reach out to prospective students and their families to provide them with the information they need and want most. Our first session will help these students not only understand that they can afford to go to college, but provide them with tips and tools they need to remain financially healthy throughout their academic journey.”

With sessions on a variety of subjects – hosted by experts throughout the college – participants can choose what they want to learn about most at Middlesex. Representatives from departments such as Financial Aid, Student Accounts and Financial Wellness – will talk about ways prospective students can set themselves up for success with a particular focus on finances.

“Applying for financial aid is so important to a student’s success at the college,” said Kimberly Tibbetts, MCC’s Director of Financial Aid. “Not only are there options available to them, students may be eligible for more assistance than they think. By guiding students through the process, we can make financial aid seem more accessible and help students focus their attention on what matters most – getting their education.”

In the Financial Aid 101 session, participants will learn how to take advantage of financial aid options, including by filling out the Application for Student Aid (FAFSA). While Student Accounts will speak on payment plans and health insurance, Financial Wellness will cover MCC’s iGrad resources and wellness workshops.

In a session on Getting Started at Middlesex, participants can ask questions and learn more about the admissions and enrollment process, including placement and registration. Participants can learn more about MCC’s Bookstore and Library Services offerings, as well as how to work on campus with a work study option.

The event will use the software – SCHED – to provide a dynamic virtual experience. After registering for the Open House, participants will receive an email from SCHED providing them with instructions to sign-up for their preferred sessions.

A second Virtual Open House – Summer Series called New Students – Get Ready for Fall will run 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, June 30. Visit www.middlesex.mass.edu/openhouse/ to stay updated on and to register for the events.
