Sherborn's Sweet Meadow Farm Heading to Canadian TV?

Canadian production company films episode of "Dog's Best Friend" in Sherborn.

Neither of them are dogs, but two animals from a local barn will be featured in an upcoming episode of "Dog's Best Friend."

Sweet Meadow Farm recently hosted Summerhill TV, a Toronto-based production company, who came down to film their new 30-minute series at the Sherborn barn. The program, which will air on Canadian nature channel Oasis HD in January, according to their Tumblr info page, began filming over the summer.

The program focuses on unique, special relationships formed between unusual animals. As the title suggests, often they profile dogs who befriend other creatures, but they keep an eye open for non-canine pairings--such as a deer and a lamb.

See the Dog's Best Friend Facebook page for more information on the show.

Sugar is a fallow deer the barn has been working with to socialize, and her best friend Lulu is a lamb who lives at the barn.

Producers at Summerhill TV learned about Lulu and Sugar through a post on the popular internet community Reddit, and called Sweet Meadow Farm. They came and filmed 10 to 12 hour days at the barn, Michaud said. They took a lot of footage of the two animals, as well as recording 90 minute interviews with her and her family, who run the farm.

"Lulu had no mom. We were her mom." Director of Programs at Sweet Meadow, Julie Michaud explained on the phone, adding that she had been bottle fed.

Sugar, on the other hand was brought from her mom to the barn, and was set return to Southwick Zoo.

"It's kind of a sad story, as they are best friends," Michaud said. "They are both going to new beginnings."

Filming included Sugar's return to Southwick, and Lulu's introduction to her new home in the goat pen at Sweet Meadow.

The show is set to air in January in Canada. While there is no American air-date set, Michaud was told that it could air stateside at some point in the future.
