99 Restaurant In Easton Catches Fire

EASTON, MA — The 99 Restaurant in Easton will have to close for at least a week after catching fire Saturday morning, fire officials said.

Around 4:30 a.m., firefighters were called to the pub at 99 Belmont St. for a report of a mulch fire. Police were called to the business a few minutes earlier for a motion alarm activation, and when they arrived, they found that the mulch surrounding the building as well as a container of rags on the side of the building had caught fire.

Before firefighters could put out the blaze, the fire spread into the attic of the building. Fire Chief Kevin Partridge said firefighters conducted an aggressive attack to get the flames under control. He said the scene was cleared shortly after 8 a.m.

No injuries were reported.

The restaurant sustained fire and water damage on the inside and attic of the building and smoke damage throughout. The pub is expected to be closed for at least a week to two weeks, fire officials said.

Brockton, Stoughton and West Bridgewater firefighters helped Easton's department extinguish the flames. The Mansfield Fire Department provided station coverage for Easton Fire.

Easton fire officials and the State Fire Marshal's Office are still working to determine the exact cause of the fire, but it is not believed to be suspicious.
