Easton Fire Assist New Mother Of Baby Girl On Turnpike Street

EASTON, MA —The Easton Fire Department was part of a very special delivery on Turnpike Street Sunday night.

That's where Paramedic Jeff Dupuis and Lieutenant Jon Carroll were called to the residence where Kaylee Sims was in labor. By the time the emergency crew on Engine 12 arrived, Sims had given birth to 6-pound, 9-ounce Elizabeth Marie Stappen, with help of her mother, Michelle, and husband, Robert, who is a local paramedic.

Easton Fire Chief Kevin Partridge said Dupuis and Carroll assessed the baby to make sure she was breathing properly and was cleaned before the ambulance arrived. The responding medics cut the baby's umbilical cord and the healthy mother and newborn were transported to the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton.

The two were later released with Chief Partridge reporting that they are both doing well.

Chief Partridge said the department dropped off diapers for Elizabeth Marie on Monday.

"We are extremely proud of Dupuis and Carroll for their outstanding job on scene," said Chief Partridge. "Their professionalism, knowledge, training and quick responses ensured that the mother and baby were safe after the unanticipated birth and while awaiting transport to the hospital. They did an outstanding job, and I am extremely proud."

Chief Partridge said Paramedic Dupuis and Lt. Carroll will receive "pink stork pins" for their efforts on the call.
