Easton Firefighters Search For Dog That Fell Through Ice

The dog was not found, but officials found a set of animal tracks leading away from the pond.

EASTON, MA — Easton firefighters responded to Shovelshop Pond Wednesday morning to search for a dog that reportedly fell through the ice, said a news release from the fire department.

The fire department received a call at approximately 10:35 a.m. from someone who reported that a dog had fallen through the ice and into the water, said the news release.

Firefighters were unable to locate the dog, but saw a set of animal tracks leading towards a hole in the ice and another set away from the ice.

“We’re hopeful that this dog made it away from the ice safely,” Chief Partridge said in a statement. “With all of the snow we’ve gotten lately, it may be difficult for an animal to know that it’s walking on ice. Please do not let your dogs outside without a leash.”

Anyone who may be missing a dog in the area of Pond Street is asked to call the Animal Control Officer at 508-230-3353.
