Easton Students Outdo State Average On MCAS Test

In all grades and subject areas, Easton School District students did better on the MCAS test this year than the state average.

EASTON, MA — Massachusetts has released results of the latest MCAS test, which is used by the state as a guide to measure students' academic performance. Among all grade levels and in all subjects, Easton School District students did better on the test than the state average.

In 10th-grade math, 74 percent of Easton students met or exceeded expectations, compared to the state average of 59 percent. In 10th-grade English, 75 percent of Easton students at least met expectations, while the state average was 61 percent. In science, 83 percent of Easton 10th-graders met or exceeded expectations, compared to the state average of 74 percent.

In grades three through eight, Easton students also outdid the state averages on the MCAS, according to the data released Tuesday. In math, 64 percent of Easton students in those grades met or exceeded expectations, compared to the state average of 49 percent. And in English, 66 percent met or exceeded expectations, compared to the state average of 52 percent.

In science, 65 percent of Easton's fifth- and eighth-graders at least met expectations, while the state average was 48 percent.
