Fire Damages Single-Family Home in Easton

Investigators say the fire started from hot ashes that were not disposed of properly.

EASTON, MA — A fire significantly damaged a single-family home in Easton Tuesday afternoon, said Easton Fire Department in a news release.

Firefighters responded to the home at 1 Pine Lane at approximately 4:12 p.m. and found flames going up the side of the house and spreading inside.

Fire officials were able to extinguish the fire before it spread to the main part of the house. However, there is an estimated $30,000 worth of damage from the blaze.

No one was home at the time of the fire. When the owners returned, investigators discovered that ashes from brush that had been burned several days earlier were placed in a plastic trash barrel, causing a fire that spread to the house.

“Although people may assume a fire is out and ashes are cool always, always wet them down and never put them in a paper bag or plastic barrel,” said Chief Kevin Partridge in a statement.

The Stoughton and Sharon fire departments provided aid at the scene and the West Bridgewater Fire Department assisted with station coverage. The scene was cleared by 4:34 p.m.
