First 'Taste of STI' Gets Rave Reviews
The event was organized by Southeastern Technical Institute and featured food from local restaurants, caterers, and STI's Culinary Program
Hundreds of people who attended the first annual “Taste of STI” enjoyed a fantastic variety of delicious food, including gorgonzola steak, shrimp with mango over rice pilaf, Italian meatballs, frothy cupcakes, Tuscan chicken salad, and many other delicious samples.
The event, which took place May 19th, featured samples from local food establishments, including Southeastern Technical Institute (STI)’s new Culinary Arts Program and Southeastern Regional Voc-Tech High School’s Culinary Arts Program. It also included a live runway show, featuring hair, make-up and fashion of STI’s first graduating class of adult Cosmetology students.
“I’m so excited – I love all this food,” said Jenn MacNeill of Attleboro. “I’m just trying to fit all these tidbits into my stomach right now, because everything is so delicious.”

The event was held at 250 Foundry Street in South Easton, home of both STI and Southeastern Regional High School. Friends and families of STI students, as well as people from surrounding towns who just wanted to sample good food, enjoyed the event. Jacquie Rose, who lives in East Bridgewater and whose son who attends Southeastern Regional High School, said she would never miss an opportunity to sample great food.
“I think it’s a great idea – there’s nothing like bringing people together with food,” she said.

STI Director Dave Degan said he planned the event for several reasons: he wanted people to become aware of STI’s new Culinary Arts and Cosmetology Programs his school offers, and he also wanted the community to enjoy a night of food and fashion.
“We want to do more community outreach, and this has been a great way to showcase our new programs,” he said.
The live runway show capped off the event, which featured eight teams of models and designers who chose their own avant-garde themes. Awards were given for best overall performance, best hair, and best make-up.
The new cosmetology students will be graduating in June, just weeks before they will sit for their Cosmetologist License Exam. The second class of Culinary Arts students will also be graduating in June, after having completed a 200 hour externship.
Mr. Degan also said he would like to thank all those who attended and contributed to the event, which included the Stoneforge Grill, Simpson Spring, Piezoni’s, Roche Brothers Catering, Lawadessa, Bread n’ Brooklyn, Pinches & Pounds, Dolce Cupcakes, Regal Marketplace, Italian Kitchen, 2 Jerks BBQ and White’s Bakery. Be sure to save the date for next year’s Taste of STI on April 4, 2017!
