$1B Taunton Casino Project Underway
The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe broke ground on the $1 billion First Light Resort and Casino in Taunton, slated to open in 2017.

TAUNTON, MA — The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe on Tuesday broke ground on First Light Resort & Casino in Taunton.
Slated to open in 2017, First Light would become the Las Vegas-style casino in Massachusetts. It's expected to cost about $1 billion.

Tribe officials called the event "historic."
Plans call for 3,000 slots, 150 table games, and 40 poker tables at First Light. There will be two restaurants, 10 retail stores, and a 3,000-space parking garage.
