The Tigers batted around the order in the second inning scoring six runs.

The Tigers varsity baseball team got a big win over Franklin Wednesday afternoon.

OA jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning en route to a 9-5 victory.

“David’s the best player in the league. He’s the best player in the Hockomock, I don’t care what anyone says. Before today we’ve used him five times in relief…out of 15 batters David struck out 14 of them,” said Oliver Ames head coach Leo Duggan.

Franklin didn't score until the top of the fifth inning when they collected two runs to make it 7-2.

The Panthers continued to rally in the sixth inning cutting the Tigers lead to two runs with a score of 7-5.

“Give Franklin credit. Most teams would have folded but they came back,” Duggan said.

Any chance of a comeback dissipated in the bottom of sixth inning, however, when OA tacked on two more runs to lead 9-5.

For Duggan, he was happy with his team's run production.

“That was the best we hit the ball all year," he said. “They had good swings.”

The Tigers are now 9-1 to begin the season. They need one more win to qualify for the postseason tournament.

“That was a big win. Any time you can beat a great program like Franklin it’s awesome. If you told me we’d be 9-1 at the beginning of the year, I don’t know, it’s great,” Duggan said.

“We have Taunton and New Bedford, we’ve got some tough, tough opponents coming up. We’ve got to win one more game and we’re going to the tournament. That’s the big thing, that’s our first goal," he said.
