Oliver Ames Boys' Soccer Captures State Title

The Tigers beat Masconomet to win the MIAA Division 2 championship.

After disappointment in the MIAA Division 2 boys’ soccer final last year, the Oliver Ames Tigers have found redemption in the 2015 edition.

The Tigers defeated Masconomet 3-1 in the championship match Saturday to claim the program’s first state title.

A goal in the 13th minute by Masconomet gave the champions of the north an early 1-0 lead, but a pair of goals in the 19th and 24th minutes allowed OA to enter the half with the advantage.

The tying goal came from Chris Romero on a direct kick into the left corner while Nathaniel Cardoza took made the most of a misplayed corner defended by Masconomet, earning the go-ahead goal.

An indirect kick from Romero to Matt Alvarado to Thomas McCormick on a set piece gave the Tigers a 3-1 lead in the 58th minute.

The Division 2 Champions finish the season with a record of 18-0-3.
