The Shovel Town 10-Minute Play Festival Returns for a Third Year
The Third Annual Shovel Town 10-Minute Play Festival Comes to Easton

Last September, The Second Annual Shovel Town 10-Minute Play Festival was a wonderful evening of drama, comedy, and live music that had the audience cheering. This year’s Festival promises to deliver even more. Featuring over thirty local actors and directors of all ages, this is an affordable night of entertainment for the whole family.
“One of the things I love about the Festival is the way we span the different generations and
participate in the arts together,” said Carolyn Cole of The Easton Shovel Town Cultural District. “We have actors, directors, and playwrights with decades of experience working along side students. This year we not only have a Student Director, Erin Flagg of Easton, we are also featuring a play written by a student, Sarah McLaughlin of Bridgewater.”
For the first time, the Festival requested playwrights submit their work for consideration in the Festival, rather than use pre-published works. “For our third year, we wanted to add this new element to the Festival. The response was overwhelming—playwrights from all over the country submitted their work,” said Victoria Kirichok, Co-Producer of the Festival. “We were thrilled by the response! It enabled us to choose a wide variety of plays. We have very serious dramas, light-hearted comedies, quirky plays that don’t fit neatly into any category—even a touch of science fiction. The response was so great we added a ninth play to the lineup. So you get an extra play for the same price of admission.”

One of the unique elements of the Festival is the live music performed between each play. The directors choose music that set the tone for their plays. "Music is an integral part of our daily lives and enhances every aspect of our experience," said Paula F. Greiner, Co-producer and Musical Director. "Live music not only prepares the audience but engages their imagination, making our event extraordinarily memorable."
Performances will be held Friday, September 15th and Saturday, September 16th at 7:30. Oakes Ames Memorial Hall is located at 3 Barrows Street, North Easton. General Admission tickets are available in advance for $15.00 at Stedfast School of Music & Arts, and The Bank of Easton, and on-line at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3042365. Tickets will be available at the door for $20 and $18 for students and seniors.
