Walter's Barbershop Makes the Cut in Downtown Easton
A former bartender, owner Walter Reis decided he wanted to be barber while - you guessed it - he was getting his hair cut.
Walter's Barbershop in downtown Easton has been providing cuts since 2001.
Owner Walter Reis opened the Main Street shop after transitioning from his career as a bartender and has been loving it ever since.
“I was actually looking for a career change and then I was getting a haircut one day and I thought ‘Wow, this isn’t a bad thing to get into.’ and I thought it would be right up my alley,” Reis said. “So, I remembered a friend of mine was a barber that I hadn’t seen in some time and I went and talked to him about it and he gave me the lowdown on the pluses and minuses of being a barber.”

“I thought it was an easy transition. You’re always talking to people. They feel good when they leave the bar, they feel good after they get a haircut,” said the Taunton native, who now lives in Mansfield.
Walter said he chose Easton to start his business because of the location and because he knew several people in town. When he first opened it was just him. Now he has six barbers.

“We’re located in the center of town. It’s a great location and it builds up the community downtown and it’s worked out quite well. The patrons have been awesome," he said.
“The barbers here have been here for a long time and they’ve been in the field for quite a long time. They’re all really good and there’s a lot of experience behind the barbers here,” said Reis.
The shop will be gearing up for prom soon which means Walter will need to bring in extra help. All appointments are done on a walk-in, first-come-first-served basis.
He said that boys growing their hair long has been the latest trend.
“Long hair is in. We get like a 50-50 mix of short fades and high and tights to long hair cuts,” said Reis.
Walter's is located at 93 Main Street next to Bill's House of Pizza. They are open Mon.-Fri., 7 a.m.-6:45 p.m. and Sat. from 6 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information call 508-238-3590.
