Andrew Benintendi's Catch Named Play Of The Year

Thankfully, because the Patriots had a rough showing.

BOSTON, MA —Andrew Benintendi, known more for his sweet hair and sweet swing more than his glove, made what may end up being the play of his life in Game 4 of the ALCS. At the very least it was the play of the year.

The Associated Press called Benintendi's diving game-saving snag against Houston the top play of 2018 in a list released Friday.

It's not a huge surprise - many were calling it one of the greatest catches in history given what was at stake. The Red Sox would have almost certainly lost one of the longest games of the season if not for Benintendi's catch after 1 a.m. Boston, which held on for an 8-6 win, took a 3-1 series lead in Houston. If he didn't make the catch, the Astros likely would have tied the series.

The AP wasn't all about the love, though. The No. 3 play(s) of the year were the so-called Philly Special - when Nick Foles caught a touchdown pass in the Super Bowl - and the Miami Miracle this month.
