Boston Police Stage Terrorism Response Scenario Sunday at Fenway Park

Don't be alarmed if you hear what sounds like gun shots, or even explosions, Sunday morning.

Boston, MA - Realistic gun shots and explosions will echo around Fenway Park Sunday, as the stadium fill with dogs, drones, first responders, "terrorists" and "victims."

Don't be alarmed. The Boston Police Department is staging what it calls a Full Scale Counterterrorism Exercise at the ballpark this Sunday, in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security, the US Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center, and Fenway Park.

The preparedness exercise will take place from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Boston Police warn that those who are not participating should avoid the area around Fenway during that time. Throughout the exercise, Yawkey Way will be closed from Brookline Avenue to Boylston Street, and Van Ness Street will be closed from Ipswich Street to Richard B. Ross Way

Police warn, "There will be a large number of role players, responders, and exercise staff in the area. During the exercise, there will also be a test of various security technologies, which may include the use of working dogs, metal detection, and unmanned aerial systems," aka drones.

The area may remain busy later in the day, but for less alarming reasons. The Boston Bacon and Beer Festival takes over Fenway Concourse B starting at 4 p.m.
