Gov. Baker Signs Earned Income Tax Credit Increase

More than 400,000 to benefit from 50 percent increase in Earned Income Tax Credit Increase, according to state officials.

Gov. Charlie Baker signed an earned income tax credit increase into law on Wednesday at the State House.

Baker was joined by Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito, Senate President Stan Rosenberg and stakeholders to enact a 50 percent increase in the Massachusetts Earned Income Tax Credit. Over 400,000 working individuals and families in the Commonwealth will benefit, according to state officials.

A refundable earned income credit is available to certain low-income individuals who have earned income and meet certain federal requirements for the federal earned income credit.

The bill increases the Massachusetts Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) from 15 percent to 23 percent of the federal EITC, extending the maximum state credit from $951 to $1,459 and meaning as much as $500 in additional support for those who are eligible.
